Dangdut Honor Code

Mikey was quite adamant that I joined his planned dangdut niteout and suggested even to Prince the week before and after which Prince called to inform of Mikey's intention. I thought nothing of it as I don't really fancy going to the place for reasons that only I am privy to. Only that Mikey actually called me via mobile the afternoon before that I was quite difficult to decline. He sounded pleading like and mentioned even that we haven't been meeting since a few months plus fasting and it will be good to banter a bit soonest. I could not resist saying yes but in actuality I wouldn't want to be present at that planned venue. Due only to the fact that Debbie is now a girl there and from a Club Mummy that she was and will always be remembered by. A laughing Lounge Manageress that would never have any harsh words for everybody. Always sunny in her disposition and near to never will have grimaces that bear any worries. I was rather intimate with her a long long time ago but now she could only be a very dear dangdut buddy. Yet when she changes profession to become a girl or a dancing lass, things could get sticky and not because my sentiments for her would change but the circumstances like before she was Mummy would not really be similar. I know her hubby - Elvis Rosly - his name could be Elvis in front but he is not all like Elvis and far from being a lookalike. We are in fact buddies if only in dangdut that we are close but dangdut in its sphere and among the old players and to be connected as in the same group and same consociation has some qualities. One being a form of chivalry that we do not become home breakers to a fellow dangdut card member. You see among dangdut lovers there is an unwritten honor code and one that is totally ignorant of other folks of other and various types but pertinent only to dangdut players. Dangdut girls are the girls in the same sphere - the dancers, mummies and singers and male dangdut members who date or marry them. Can be said to be of people inside the same boat. Of course dangdut is lowly and laughable but honorable veritably for the long time members. We just don't disturb anything that has already found stability or semblance of it. Dangdut cannot be mainstream as it concerns more on the entertainment domain and quite separate and distinct from what ordinary folks would consider normal. So dangdutists remain distant from the center and survive only upon the periphery and whatever that is valuable - socially and psychologically even though ludicrous - we hold dear. Therefore this much unknown dangdut code is very important to us. We don't intrude upon each other within dangdut although most times we are considered social misfits`by non dangdutists. A code of honor that originally originates from bangsawan and funfair days. Or anak pokok ketapang denoting the ketapang trees with the oversize leaves and under which most makeshift tents will be erected, housing bangsawan and funfair folks, during shows. Hoi! Anak Ketapang! (Children of Ketapang) The late Tan Sri P. Ramlee would be hollering! And Elvis Rosly is sickly and bedridden now and the reason Debbie changes profession, for money to live and to survive. Must anyone hurt him then and definitely not me and of whom is in a tad bit different situation but still an orang seni( art (y) folk ) nonetheless. Speedy Recovery Elvis Rosly and together we will again boogie to the Dangdut  - dance of life! Live and Let Live!
